3 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Marshal Arjan Singh (Late)
Born on 15th April 1919, Marshal Arjan Singh was the third Marshal of the Armed Forces and the oldest serving defense personnel of IAF. A part of second World War and 1965 Indo-Pak war, Marshal Arjan Singh was the living embodiment of a hero. He joined the Armed forces during the British Raj back in 1939. The news of his death shook the nation. He was admitted at the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital on Saturday due to cardiac arrest. In his remembrance, we bring to you 3 things you probably didn’t know about him!
First Of All
Serving in the Armed Forces before Independence, he was the oldest serving defense personnel! He was 98 years old. He did nearly 15-20 Sorties during his entire career. In 2002, on the occasion of Republic Day, he was presented the honorary rank of Marshal.
More Importantly
Due to his supreme leadership skills and bravery he was presented the Distinguished Flying Cross on the battlefield by Supreme Allied Commander of the South East Asian Command, Lord Mountbatten. He had been awarded with ‘n’ number of awards and honors such as Pudma Vibhushan. 1938-1945 star, War Medal 1938-1945, Saiyna Seva Medel and many more.
And Lastly
Marshal Arjan Singh was part of two very prominent wars. First was the Second World War. Where he was posted on the Burma Front, first as a Pilot Officer with Tigers Squadron and then as the Commander of the same Squadron. Second, the 1965 Indo-Pak War.
