The McCain Award for Courage and Leadership is presented each year to honour an individual who has stood unwaveringly for fundamental values and has inspired the world through acts of selfless courage. The famous recipients of this award have been Malala Yousafzai (2015) and Dikembe Mutombo (2016). It is bestowed on those who show courage on behalf of human rights, humanitarian compassion, justice, freedom, and human dignity.

In her 19-year long career, Sharma has always had a victim-centric approach while solving cases. She has led several teams and dealt with sensitive and human rights cases, mainly those about women and children. However, solving the Nirbhaya case was nothing short of a milestone in her career.

We all salute the bravado of this exceptional woman!
