Every nook and cranny of our beloved Chandni Chowk has a story to tell. With a rich cultural and historical past, it’s now time for Chandi Chowk to get a much-needed transformation that it deserves! No matter however much we love this time-honoured market, one can’t ignore that it does come with its set of problems and issues. Keeping this in mind, before Independence Day this year, there are plans to completely modify the market place for good!
Of the total 1.5 kilometres at Chandni Chowk, that’ll be redeveloped, a 300-metre stretch will be ready for pedestrians. The first phase of this development will enable pedestrians an easy way in this ever-so-crowded market and it’ll become an entirely pedestrian-friendly way!
Moreover, the Public Works Department also plans the implementation of diagonal zebra crossing lines that will ensure the smooth and hassle-free crossing of roads for walkers without an alarming look! The traffic lights in all directions will turn red after every 30 seconds.
PWD plans to give the whole length of Chandni Chowk a new look by the installation of amenities for the public as well as giving the entire area a green push. Soon the street furniture and the tiles will be adorned with resplendent Mughal motifs, all reminiscent of the time when Mughal emperors held court in RedFort. Enhanced street lighting, public toilets, benches at regular intervals, parking facilities are also a part of the overhaul plan!
We can’t wait for our Chandi Chowk to become a traffic-free, customer-friendly oasis where we can not only shop and splurge but also walk in peace!
