The shocking rape & murder of 8-year-old Asifa left the nation in a state of panic and shock. In fact, one of the most shocking facts about the case is the revelation made by Asifa’s uncle. The poor girl was raped & subsequently murdered over LAND! Can you believe that?
Asifa was from a village where land is the main factor behind communal violence in a Hindu dominated town. The dispute peaked last year when the Hindus demanded the return of one acre of land sold to the Muslims. Moreover, when that did not happen, they disallowed the burial of the girl’s body in the local graveyard.
So, as if her rape and subsequent murder weren’t bad enough, the poor family cannot even bury her body in peace.
Thus, to show solidarity toward her family and to fight this injustice within our system, a group of Delhiites is hosting a protest in her name. And not just to protect the late Asifa’s memory but also to make sure that this does not ever happen again.
Similarly, we too at DforDelhi do not tolerate the misdemeanours of certain characters in the Indian society. And we would like to extend our heartfelt condolence to Asifa’s family and ask all of you to join hands to fight this insect of injustice in our society.
