Delhi’s Own Dog Ashram Is Home To Over 300 Dogs You Can Meet And Play With!
Did you know there’s a one-acre ashram in Delhi for dogs? It’s true people! As soon as you step into the ashram 10 dogs run toward you with their tails wagging in excitement. And why not? Housing over 300 dogs, the ashram is the only home these dogs have. And each visitor is a friend in disguise!
30 Second Window:
- At Sai Sanctuary in Chattarpur, dogs are brought in by good Samaritans, staff members and people who might find them lying around in the streets of South Delhi!
- The dogs here are provided 4 square meals in a day. Milk & bread in the morning, packed dog food for lunch, eggs and soup in the evening and a proper dinner at night.
- Dogs here are named after their particular peculiarities and colour. One of them, Handsome is possibly the best-looking pupper in the ashram. In fact, all the dogs have become accustomed to their individual names in a short span of time!
- The founders of the ashram established the place in 2001 and have since housed, fed, domesticated but never caged hundreds of dogs! Sai Sanctuary is the brainchild of Yashwant Kumar and Rajiv Vij, two animal lovers who used to feed 200 dogs every day in the area.
- Since the ashram does not have any funding, they charge INR 3,500 to anyone who might want to bury their pupper here.
