To control the traffic and mismanagement, created by the rickshaws and vehicles in Lajpat Nagar Central Market, the market association introduced a free e-rickshaw service, starting Tuesday, November 28.
The market is visited by thousands of people every day who travel through public transport, metros and private vehicles. The aim of this initiative is to minimise the chaos created by drivers who drive their vehicles on the wrong side and park anywhere.
The service will be available from Lajpat Nagar Metro Station, towards three different roads, Veer Savarkar Marg, Feroz Gandhi Marg, and Shiv Mandir Road. This would link the Central Market to three different sides of the city.
To help the visitors identify these free rides, boards have been placed on the front, as well as the back of the e-rickshaws, also mentioning their routes so. On Tuesday, the drive began with 10 e-rickshaws. The number would be doubled within the next 10 days, based on the feedback given by the visitors.
The expenses of the e-rickshaws would be paid by the association, with the drivers receiving Rs 800- 1000 on a day to day basis. The service will be available from 11 am to 9 pm.
The shoppers will also have the option of parking their vehicles, in Delhi Metro Rail Cooperation’s parking lot on the main road and take the e-rickshaws towards the market.
In spite of the resistance being faced by the rickshaw drivers who are not a part of the initiative, the association is confidence about the success of the drive in controlling the traffic.
