The airforce station is located close to Ghaziabad, near the Hindon lake. Hindon airport, which is around 40 km from the IGI Airport belongs to the Indian Air Force (IAF). The AAI (Airport Authority of India) has developed the civil enclave there. The Indian Air Force permitted the use of the airbase for civilian flights under regional air connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik).
