India Opens It’s First Partition Museum A Few Hours From Delhi!

In the 70 years since Independence, there has never been a memorial or museum that signifies the true mishappenings of partition. There are literally hundreds of countries in this world that have built memorials to support freedom, the choices that go with it and the consequences of being separated from those who we love.

30 Second Window:

• With hundreds of thousands of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and people of other faiths massacred. With 15 million people displaced from their homes, this museum honours the stories of all those people!
• An antique pocket watch belonging to someone killed in mob violence in Pakistan. Woven fabrics from craftsmen of the time. And many old black-and-white family snapshots are only some of the artefacts preserved here.
• The exhibitions here also host an ageless connection to the time. To the time Amritsar was divided between two people, two countries, two varied situations that were provoked, captured and put to stand the test of time.
• Housed in the red brick town hall building of Amritsar, the place is home to artefacts and stands testimony to time. Screens in the museum show interviews of the survivors.
• The last of the 14 galleries in the museum is called Gallery of Hope. It’s where visitors are allowed to scribble their heartfelt messages.
