Know It All In 30 Seconds

If a heart yearns to achieve something with every bit of passion, even the impossible can be turned into a piece of cake. This is aptly proved by the Indian Wheelchair Cricket (IWC) teams , setting the playgrounds on fire since the last few years. Recently, Bal Bhavan School, Dwarka saw 11 men on wheelchairs, gearing up to play a six-over match against the Delhi Police team, putting on the iconic blue t-shirts of team India. The Indian Wheelchair Cricket Premier League (IWPL), modelled after IPL, has 8 teams with 120 players representing the various states.

Vinod Thakur, the 29-old disabled dancer and Nach Baliye fame, who was the organizer of the tourney, said that things were sceptical in the beginning ‘coz getting sponsors for a disabled team wasn’t an easy affair. But now wheelchair cricket is remarkably growing, with 16 states having their own teams.

These tournaments not only provide an edge to the self-confidence of these players but also help to change the society’s perception about them by giving them a whole new recognition. The Indian Wheelchair Cricket team had also landed up to Nepal this year to be a part of the Asia Cup.

Though the Delhi Police team won the Dwarka match in the last over, the IWC players were no less victorious, in defying all challenges and boldly striking sixers on the wheelchairs. When there is will, there’s definitely a way!
