The Delhi Government Might Soon Ban Ola Share And Uber Pool In Delhi!

Sighting permit inadequacy, Delhi government might ban Ola Share and Uber Pool. While the share cab service concept is cheaper than booking an individual cab, we wonder if this will increase the number of cars on the road. Since the concept of sharing cabs emerged from the need to decrease traffic and pollution, the Government plans to ban the service under the City Taxi Scheme 2017.

30 Second Window:

  • Sure it’s bad news but it has a strong reason behind it! The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 has no provision that allows shared rides by cabs operating under contract carriage permits.
  • If discontinued, the cab drivers will be unable pick up or drop multiple passengers.  However, the stage carriage permit, given for public service buses, allows picking up and dropping passengers at different stops on a given route.
