Copycats, BEWARE! This Indian Instagrammer is going to name and shame you!
Where there are originality and creativity, imitation is never behind. Be it the written word, or the world of fashion, plagiarism has become very common. But thanks to the growing use of the web and social media, calling out these copycats has also become easy!
The west already had @diet_prada, a fashion account that spots rip-off designs and puts them up with side-by-side comparisons. In fact, the anonymous Diet Prada has grown so big, it has over 300,000 followers and Instagram’s blue tick of verification. Leading fashion personnel like Manish Arora, Bandana Tewari, and Chiara Ferragni are all followers of Diet Prada and the account even has its own brand of merchandise.
When @diet_prada started calling out design plagiarism, it was time that the Indian Fashion Industry got its own police!
Recently a page by the name of @dietsabya has taken Instagram by storm! Claiming to be ‘Diet Prada’s fierce little sister” Diet Sabya is following the same format of calling out design imitations with side by side images of the original and the imitation design!
This ‘copy of a copy’ account isn’t afraid of calling out famous personalities and brands for their lousy imitation game! So be it the time when the account put Shoes By Guwalani at the side of Gucci’s favourite fur slippers to see the shocking similarities, or when Malaika Arora was caught in a Deme by Gabriella outfit that looked too much like a Monse Maison creation, Diet Sabya has got its eyes on everyone!
In just a matter of days, Diet Sabya’s follower count has passed 5,000 and Indian fashion biggies like James Ferreira and Kalyani Saha Chawla have even appreciated the work the account is doing.
Originality doesn’t come easy and so, it is positively refreshing to see it being protected and rip-offs being called out. All we can say is, we really wouldn’t want to be a copycat right now.
