Know It All In 30 Seconds
Ever since ’51, Delhi’s 111-year-old Bachan Singh has never missed voting. The Election Commission officers had visited Mr Singh’s house to invite him to vote in the sixth phase of national elections. Until the last Lok Sabha elections, he cycled to the polling booths. But this year, the polling commission provided him with pick and drop facilities.
His said that they have always voted for the Congress because former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru “supported Namdhari Sikhs at the time of partition”, however they were of the opinion that Aam Aadmi party should be given another chance in Delhi. Ironically, Bachan Singh is unaware of the existence of Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal. His son informed that for him all elections have been a contest between BJP and Congress.
An advocate of “even a single vote should be wasted”, Bachan Singh is an inspiration for one and all, especially the youth of this country. He is a living, breathing example of what a responsible citizen’s duties should entail.
