As nominal as it seems, a sanitary pad is an indispensable part of a woman’s life. If you got a vagina, you know how it bleeds and churns your body every single month. Worst are the times when you’ve to walk all the way to the chemist to get a packet of sanitary napkins with a bleeding body. Now imagine those women who cannot afford a single sanitary tissue and have to go through unimaginable body functionality trauma (in forms of infection) every single day. Finally, we’ve some good news to spread. The Delhi Government has taken an initiative to give subsidized sanitary napkins to 50,000 girls from Delhi’s slums. Awesome right?
The scheme will focus on ensuring the safe disposal of sanitary napkins. Improving access to high-quality sanitary napkins in rural areas, Asha workers to hold monthly meetings with girls to discuss issues related to menstrual hygiene. Girls studying in Delhi government schools are already provided sanitary napkins free of cost. Hence, the upcoming scheme will cater to out-of-school girls.
