We might spend our days munching on waffles and ice creams, but at the end of the day, we all know that there is no match for our desi mithais!
Milk cakes, the pride of Delhi desserts, looks like a beehive, tastes like ambrosia and is made up of only milk and sugar!! To get the best milk cake in town, you have to step into Kucha Ghasi Ram, a narrow lane near Fatehpuri Masjid in Chandni Chowk.
This a distance we certainly don’t mind travelling!
Hemchand Ladli Prashad Milk Shop is just a hole in the wall. There are no chairs, no tables. The shop’s best product is hidden among a range of other dairy products such as Barfi, rabri, dahi and chai.
But soon you’ll spot the milk cake halwai simmering sweetened milk in a huge pot and stirring it for hours! As it starts leaving brownish streaks, the grainy, slushy mixture of half-evaporated milk is transferred into a tray and steamed till it sets. These are then cut into slices and sold.
This wonderful milky delight id Delhi’s favourite and can be found at any mithai shop across Delhi!
So try it out and fall in love with this sugary delight!
