India is a country of many talents, where in every lane you will find a dancer, a painter, or a writer. Recently we got our hands on a documentary about the hip-hop, and b-boying subculture in Delhi’s economically backward sections and believe us, our minds were blown!
The opening scene of Shabani Hassanwalia and Samreen Farooqui’s documentary, ‘Gali’ begins with Independence Day celebrations.

Shot at Delhi’s Khirki Extention, the documentary features a group of boys who call themselves Slumgods Millionaires. They are going to move you off your feet with their killer B-Boying moves and raps such as “Politicians ki manmaani”.
The scene is a classic representation of their anger and frustrations, and they vent it through hip-hop and B-Boying!
They use the lawn of a mall for their practice pad and show. Making the most of the technology, viewers will see how adept the dancers are at showcasing their art in a small 20-minute window while the guards change.
Apart from the Slumgods, the film also features talents like Nitish from Dhobi Ghat in Patel Chowk, Ray from Devi Lal Nagar in Gurugram, 8 Hindus from Nepal Basti, RK Puram and Prabh Deep from Tilak Nagar, among others.
The film, was funded by a grant from the India Foundation for the Arts. The movie does not present backstories of the artists but provides a space for their performances, practices and rap battles.
If you truly want to feel the heart of the nation beat, then you have got to watch this documentary and move to their beats!
