DTC Most Likely To ‘Hire’ 1000 Low-Floor AC Buses

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has made a proposal to “hire” 1000 “low-floor” air-conditioned CNG buses to add to the city’s dying bus fleet.

So far, DTC has only hired three diesel run AC Volvo buses, all of which only offer international service on the Delhi-Lahore and Delhi-Kathmandu routes.

This move could make a huge difference as Delhi is facing a significant shortage of buses in its transportation system. The national capital as only 5,500 buses where 11,000 buses are needed. Out of these 3,892 are DTC buses and rest are cluster or orange buses run by DIMTS.

The proposal to hire buses would be taken up by the DTC in its board meeting on Monday, after which it will be put before the Delhi Cabinet for an ‘in-principle’ approval.

The best part of this decision is that the busses will be low-floor, making them disabled friendly!
