The one thing that we women hate more than these summers are periods during summers! Not only do the sanitary napkins end up giving us ugly rashes but also are a major hazard to the environment.
And since it is World Environment Day today, let us introduce you to a biodegradable and eco-friendly alternative to this period problem!
Delhi-based entrepreneur Deepanjali Dalmia launched sanitary napkin brand Heyday in September 2017. The product has been evolved after research spanning over two years and the final product turns out to be a real problem solver!
Made from bamboo and corn fibre, Heyday pads are highly absorbent while being priced affordably. The founder claims they are a healthy and planet-friendly alternative to plastic pads.
The product is easily available on medical stores in Delhi and NCR region, as well as online for people who live in other cities.
Commercially available napkins have a highly absorbent core that contains chlorine bleach and other chemicals. Apart from causing discomfort, yeast infections, skin rashes and UTI, long-term usage can result in pelvic inflammatory disease, cervical cancer, and impaired fertility.
Then comes the environmental concern. Commercial pads are made up of over 90 percent plastic with super-absorbent polymers and non-woven plastic components. They are not biodegradable. Incineration isn’t an option because they release toxic gases upon burning, and sanitary waste that clogs up landfills becomes a breeding ground of bacteria such as E-coli.
So this World Environment Day, pledge to stay natural and give these biodegradable, eco-friendly pads a try!
Period.
