The ISSF (International Shooting Sports Federation) World Cup 2019 gets underway in New Delhi. Various events in the World cup will start from February 23rd and end on 27th at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.
What’s It All About?
This year’s shooting sports season starts from the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi (IND), where the first stage of the 2019 ISSF World Cup Series has been officially opened. It will be the third ISSF competition held in the Indian city since 2017.
The tournament will have 16 Tokyo 2020 Olympics quota places up for grabs. India is fielding a 23-member squad with 11 shooters in the non-competition Minimum Qualification Score (MQS) category. Are you rooting for India to make it to Tokyo? Oh, we are!!
Overall, Around 503 shooters from 58 countries will be competing for top honors. With Apurvi Chandela and Anjum Moudgil already securing an Olympic quota in Women’s 10m air rifle event, the Indian contingent will compete for a maximum of 14 quota places in the event. with eight of the 10 events offering Olympic quota places.
Above all, this world cup will have wide TV coverage. An estimate of 78 countries in 4 continents will be able to view and enjoy the games from their living rooms. But for us Delhiites, it’s happening right here and it’s live.
