One of Delhi’s most iconic museums – The Walled City Museum – will soon be revived. The Union Culture Ministry has agreed to allocate INR 4.22 crore for the restoration of the museum! Located in an 88-year-old haveli at Lahori Gate that was left in ruins will soon attract history buffs.
30 Second Window:
- After a decade of the inauguration, the facility had fallen prey to the negligence of civic bodies. Thus, losing sheen soon after its opening the two-storeyed haveli had been lying locked for almost a decade.
- The visitors to the museum dwindled over the years and the only ones that came back, again and again, were encroachers. The museum is home to tons of artefacts and spread across 1000 yards.
- The then Union youth affairs and sports minister had initiated the project during his second term as an MP from Chandni Chowk around 2004.
- While the minister had sent a proposal to the culture ministry seeking funds for the restoration of the facility, nothing happened.
- Now, finally, the centre has allocated 4.22 crores for the restoration of the museum!
DforDelhi Recommends:
- That you keep a lookout for the restored museum and don’t forget to visit it soon!
