Its that time of the year once again when every man around you is growing beards, posting pictures on facebook about No-Shave November and buying fancy products to groom their beards. But only a handful of them know the true significance of the month.
So Ladies and Gentlemen, read on to know what all the fuss is about and what you can do to help.
No Shave November actually started as Movember down in Adelaide, Australia in 1999. It was started in order to bring attention to men’s health, in particular, prostate cancer awareness. Since then, awareness has been spread worldwide, hitting the US around 2006. Since 2004, the Movember Foundation has raised more than 175 million dollars worldwide.
The whole point behind the idea was to donate all the money we would use on parlors, shaving, grooming products and donate it to the cause. And believe it or not, Movember is not aimed at men only. Women can help to raise awareness and funds as well. The social constraint that women must shave is no longer a thing. Normalization of body hair is happening. Ladies, donate all the money you would use on costly waxing sessions, luxury razors, shaving creams and more.
In India, Prostate Cancer is a leading cause of death in men and the trends are increasing. The Indian Prostate Cancer Foundation (IPCF) is an organization that is helping men in India. By spreading awareness and raising donations, the IPCF is committed to the cause of relieving the impact of prostate cancer in India.
How You Can Help?
Save all the money you would use for shaving, maybe add more to the funds, and donate to an organization that researches and helps with treatment of prostate cancer. One local organization you can donate to is – Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre. If you want to help more, you can directly donate to the IPCF from here.
So make this a November to remember and donate to a cause, spread awareness and grow that beard!
