Isn’t is shallow of us to let a fellow human enter our drains keeping his life at stake just to fix our blocked sink. A number of social activists now and then have raised the concern to abolish manual scavenging. Although, there is a ray of hope. In an attempt to fully eradicate manual scavenging from the Indian capital, the Delhi government is working towards robotic solutions for cleaning sewers and septic tanks.
The idea was inspired by a Robot named Bandicoot, developed by Kerala-based start-up Genrobotics. It has been commissioned by municipal bodies in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. Bandicoot, a semi-automatic robot, only requires a human operator to stand on the street near the manhole.
Looks like a great initiative, isn’t it?
