The UGC will likely grant autonomous status to St. Stephen’s College. In fact, the move will allow the college to take private decisions in tons of matters such as – academic syllabus and tuition fee!
St. Stephen’s had applied for autonomy last year, after which a committee had inspected the ground of the college. Moreover, the UGC is likely to take a final decision on the matter next week.
However, the decision to let the college become an autonomous body was preceded by protests from certain sections of the student body. Additionally, a bunch of teachers had also protested the decision on grounds that the college must remain a more integral part of DU.
Of course, if the college does get autonomy, it’ll be the first of its kind!
So, as the UGC sits down to take a final decision, stay updated with us. Meanwhile, you can read more about this here.
