The famous Kalka-Shimla heritage line recently received a major upgrade. The Northern Railways has introduced ‘Vistadome’ coaches on the toy train. These are glass-enclosed coaches through which the tourists will be able to enjoy snowfall and rainfall while going through the scenic mountains.
To give a boost to the tourism, the Northern Railways has taken a lot of initiatives such as hop-on and hop-off rides, joy train rides, and more apart from the vistadome coaches in the Kalka-Shimla toy train.
This coach will have a seating capacity of 36 seats, have a glass roof, modified windows and air conditioning system. It will comprise designer LED lights, window blinds, and cushioned wooden interiors. This coach also known as ‘Nihaar’, is a first of its kind on this section. The train with the coach is all set to take its first ride on the 11th of December.
The five and a half hour journey on the narrow-gauge line takes you through 102 tunnels and many arch bridges and picturesque stations of Himachal. The fare will be charged on an end-to-end basis. Adults will have to pay 130 INR for one side of the journey and children will be charged 75 INR. Passengers can book their seats through passenger reservation system for the Vistadome Coach online.
