16,500 Trees Will Be Uprooted Due To Development Drive In South Delhi

Three parts of South Delhi will soon be going paying a huge price for development. Approximately 16,500 trees will be chopped off to pave the way for development and affected areas will include – Sarojini Nagar, Nauroji Nagar & Netaji Nagar.

In fact, according to the project, new saplings will be planted in other places to make up for the loss. Accordingly, for every one tree that is lost, the forest department will have to plan 10 saplings.

However, many residents of South Delhi have raised questions against the project that might see Delhi’s biggest green belt being removed. Moreover, since as many as 11,000 trees will be cut down, residents are asking not to initiate the project.

So, the only question that needs to be debated is – is development more important or green cover. Especially in a city like Delhi where pollution-related problems is a BIG thing!
