Western Peripheral Expressway Opens To Public Today!

Finally, Delhi will get a ‘Ring Expressway’ that will work as a bypass for vehicles not destined for the national capital.  Almost after 15 years of proposing the plan, the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal stretch, also known as Western Peripheral Expressway(WPE), will open for traffic today (Monday 19th November 2018), and bring down travel time from Sonipat to Manesar to about 45 minutes n this signal-free corridor.

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) was opened in May and together with the Western Peripheral Expressway, it will decongest Delhi and take 50,000 vehicles off the capital roads. The Expressway will not only help vehicles travel from one part of the country to another without entering Delhi and congesting its roads, but the link from the expressway to different states and national highways will also improve traffic flow in the NCR.

The completion of the entire network comes at a time when the environment watchdog and government authorities are mulling drastic options to cut vehicular traffic on Delhi roads including banning of diesel vehicles on days when air quality becomes sever.

So the completion of this road just might be the answer to our pollution questions. However, initially, the WPE was designed to be a 4 lane expressway with limited access. Haryana government later decided to make it six lanes in par with the EPE. The road is made of concrete and allows vehicles to travel at the speed of 120 Kmph. Since the road is relatively new and still has some minor work left pending, we advise you to drive at a speed that is controllable.
