Close to 30 restaurants and shops on the first floors of Khan Market might be getting sealed today! The Supreme Court, evidently, ordered NDMC to seal all shops in violation of the 2021 master plan.
According to sources, the monitoring committee has given the order to seal the first and above floors. Until, of course, the owners start paying conversion charges to the committee. Use conversion charges are levied for misuse of land. If the land use of a particular plot is for residential purpose, the owner will have to pay the ‘use conversion charges’ to convert the plot into a commercial one.
In fact, Khan Market has been under the scanner for not following fire safety rules. As a majority of the restaurants do not have clearance from the fire department.
