Chandni Chowk will soon be pedestrian only from 9 AM to 9 PM. In fact, sources suggest that the 1.5 km stretch from Red Fort to Fatehpuri mosque will soon only be for pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles.
Why Chandni Chowk will soon be pedestrian only from 9 AM to 9 PM
The unified traffic and transportation infrastructure centre have only allowed vehicles like cycle rickshaws to ply on the road. Moreover, the centre has also approved a plan to construct a footpath on both sides of the carriageway.
Accordingly, the new rules are:
- All public facilities and power transformers will be on the footpath
- No cap on the number of cycle rickshaws on the road
However, many people have a different opinion of the plan. Their logic? The present plan will reduce the size of the footpaths and increase the width of non-motorised vehicle lanes.
