Many of those die hard Coldplay fans who were looking forward to the British band’s gig at the Global Citizen Festival might be in for another disappointment. The highly anticipated festival was initially going to feature the band on the 19th of November at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) grounds. But the gig might be getting postponed now due to concerns raised by the opposition in regards with the exemptions given by the Fadnavis government, for the show.
Here are the details of the matter:
- The Congress and Nationalist Congress Party have demanded the postponement of the Coldplay concert due to violation of the election code of conduct for the upcoming municipal council polls.
- NCP criticized the BJP led government in Maharashtra for providing heavy concessions for the festival to woo voters for next year’s BMC polls.
- In a letter submitted to the State Election Commission, the Congress alleged that the state government – which is a strategic partner for the show – gave as much as 75% concession in fare to the organisers for the ground at BKC.
- Further, it also alleged that the government gave tax exemptions to the show even after the code of conduct was imposed.
- Mumbai Chief of Congress, Sanjay Nirupam, demanded that the show be postponed until the completion of the elections.
- This might further cause more issues as many Coldplay fans demanded to know why the tickets to the concert were so highly priced. Which now, makes one wonder if some middlemen were planning on taking home some major profits from the show.
So, buckle up as the Coldplay gig might face further political backlash especially since JS Saharia, state election commissioner, assured Nirupam that the demand will be considered for further scrutiny.
