Delhi Metro is rightly said to be the lifeline of the city. But dude, what about the fare now? Weren’t they suppose to cater to the middle class? If you are a regular Delhi Metro commuter and a student, you would know how expensive it has become to travel in the metro. Your Dad gives you 500 bucks on Monday, *zooop* you metro card sucks it all within a week! But wait, we do have some good news for you. Traveling by Delhi Metro may soon become easier on the pocket for senior citizens and students.
The sudden strike in the metro fare in 2017 asked Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to introduce a technology-based solution to ensure fare concessions for students and senior citizens. It is not clear as to how much fare concession will be provided among the two categories. Thankfully, the corporation has finally found the solution to ensure concessions for a select category of passengers. This will soon be implemented across the entire metro network in the capital.
DMRC plans to install 2,000 such devices at 240 stations with a central server. Nevertheless, the move seems justified for the students and senior citizens who have no or low income. We hope they fix the network issue too, DMRC are you listening?
