The new academic session is about to start but did you know there are several colleges in DU that don’t have a principal? According to certain sources, 20 of 70 colleges under Delhi University, currently, have an officiating principal. By DU norms, if a college does not have a principal, then either the university or the college governing body is supposed to appoint an officiating principal.

- If the post of the principal is filled by an officiating personnel, then by law the person only stays in the post for 6 months. Following which, the post is supposed to be filled permanently, or the term is extended.
- The post needs to be advertised by a governing body and the university must have a selection committee in place for interviews. However, today, several colleges do not even have governing bodies!
Here’s a picture to give some perspective –
While DU had presented notices to several colleges, there has not been any official change in the matter.
