Late on Friday the GST Council finally eased the tax burden by slashing the GST rate to 5 %! The application of the new GST rate will be applied to both A/c and non-A/c restaurants. Which means that if you’re going out to eat today or tomorrow, fret not, you will not be charged the 18% tax on dining out anymore!
However, the new GST rate will not be applied to restaurants inside hotels with tariffs of INR 7,500 and above. So, if you’re going to a Taj or someplace else, know that you will be charged the same old GST rate – 18%.
While many restaurants and owners of food joints applauded the new move, yet certain restaurants and QSRs have maintained that they will take some time to assess the development.
