Facebook To Help Delhi Elections Combat Fake News

The elections dates are out and the nation is all set to choose their representatives for the next few years. Amidst the election fever, to curb spreading of fake news, Facebook Inc. has planned to start an operations center centre in Delhi.

The center will coordinate with the social media giant’s offices at Menlo Park (California), Dublin and Singapore, on a 24×7 basis to monitor election content. Facebook will constantly engage with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to understand how it can ensure the coming polls are safe from abuse and misinformation on its platform. Interestingly, India will be the second country after the US to have an operations room for Facebook.

Facebook will try and remove fake accounts that are the source of misinformation. It claims to have taken down two billion fake profiles between September 2017 and October 2018.
