Soon passengers of domestic flights will be able to avail data services in-flight.
The new policy, suggested by TRAI, is pending approval and will be finalised on 1st May. In fact, if the new policy is approved then, airlines would be free to offer internet services.
However, the rates at which the data services will be provided would depend completely on the airlines.
For all this to finally happen the DoT will have to sign a licence contract with the particular provider, similar to what it has with telecom and internet service providers.
So, it would seem that internet usage will soon be the next big thing in the Indian airlines’ industry.
