Here’s to all the Football fans out there, The wish of watching the ‘El Clasico’ live between the two of the biggest football clubs – Real Madrid and Barcelona – might become a reality for Indian football fans with the official announcement of launch of the Spanish football league, La Liga, in India on Thursday(sept 15 2016).The next El Clasico could be happening in India.what else do you need?There were many celebrities at the launch and the launched proved to be very successful.
Morientes, who is a former Spain striker, recalled his India connection and said”Many of my friends have played in India and I am really happy to be here and then said, “I welcome the opening of the LaLiga office and say hello to all the fans in India.” Also present at the event wereSpain’s David Cup team of Conchita Martinez (captain), 14-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal, veteran David Ferrer and double specialists Marc Lopez and Feliciano Lopez.Morientes also played an impromptu game of football tennis with Spain’s Davis Cup team.
They are planning to host exhibition matches involving big names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez and Gareth Bale.
Their focus would be :-
- popularising the league in India
- to start with La Liga matches at 4:30 IST to suit the Indian audience
- to motivate young kids in India to play football
The American Basketball League, National Basketball League (NBA) and WWE already have offices in India and La Liga has now added their name to that list.
