NGT Mandates 10,000 Rupee Fine For Throwing Solid Waste On Streets!

National Green Tribunal has mandated that any person caught throwing solid waste on the streets will be slapped with a INR 10,000 fine. According to the apex body, the waste material thrown out in the streets has multiplied manifold over the last few years. So, in order to curb throwing of solid waste on the streets will soon become a punishable offence.

The NGT said that all authorities were under “statutory” obligation to ensure that waste was collected, transported & disposed off in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.

A press release by the National Green Tribunal said,  any person, hotel, resident, slaughter house, vegetable market etc. that does not comply with the directions or throws waste over any drain or public place shall be liable to pay environmental compensation at the rate of Rs 10,000 per default.
