The Supreme Court on Wednesday clarified its order on Highway liquor ban. Stating that any liquor selling vendor near 500 metres of the highway will be allowed to sell alcohol till it’s located within the city limits! So, if at all your local liquor vendors had to shut shop, this clarification might just help them.
30 Second Window:
- The purpose of the order dated 15 December 2016 was to deal with the sale of liquor along and in the proximity of highways properly understood.
- The order was to provide connectivity between cities, towns and villages. The order does not prohibit licensed establishments within municipal areas.
- This clarification shall govern other municipal areas as well. We have considered it appropriate to issue this clarification to set at rest any ambiguity.
