If you’re a bibliophile, you’ll know what amazing memories these old books bring with themselves. Preserving some endless memories and heritage, this 157-year old library, Lala Hardyal Municipal Library in Chandni Chowk is all set to get a makeover!
What To Expect?
The construction is expected to take over 12 months. The project is being carried out on the basis of a detailed conservation report prepared by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage. The new changes will involve modification and renovation of the structure. The old books will also be preserved and the entire catalogue will be computerised. The digitisation of Mughal-era texts and rare books is also on the cards.
What You’ll Love?
The library was set up in 1862 and has around 8,000 rare books and manuscripts. Many first editions, some of which were block-printed in the 17th and 18th centuries. You can also find a few rare surviving copies and many old Persian manuscripts with inscriptions.
