According to officials in the forest department, cafes and hotels shut down their operations recently. In fact, the deadline for the removal of the properties was 25th May. Citing reasons like –
- The high-altitude meadows fell in the forest land.
- And no commercial activity of any sort was allowed in the locality.
Moreover, 50 illegal properties in Kheerganga had been causing damage to the ecological sensitivity of the place. Which brings to question the trekking opportunities of the hill station. However, officials were quick to respond saying travellers can camp in the area as long as they have permits.
