Fortis Operates On Wrong Leg of A 24 Year Old.

And our famed doctors did it again. But I guess this is something which they are good at even more than Virat Kohli in scoring centuries. But this time, Fortis Hospital has moved the bar of carelessness(or maybe stupidity) a notch higher.

Here’s what actually happened, a man named Ravi Rai who is a resident of Ashok Vihar,New Delhi was treated on his left leg instead of right one which he injured when he fell down a staircase. And if this was not enough, the handling of the event by the hospital officials made it miserable for patient’s family members. According to the statement given to some channels, the parents said that the authorities were very cool about the while wrong foot surgery haphazard and that  they would simply  perform another surgery to remove the screws from the left ankle and put them in the right one.(That’s just pathetic) This statement by the hospital made circumstances unbearable and they decided to shift to the nearby Max Hospital.

A committee has been setup to probe the incident but we all know what “Expert” probe committees do. And trust us, all this happened after marking the right leg with a marker. However in this case, the Hospital has admitted to the error and has sacked two orthopedic surgeons, two nurses and one Operation Theater technician. Probably because this incident got too much of media’s attention and why would a brand like Fortis will spoil their name. But if we take in prospective all the villages and small cities where people do not have proper knowledge and infrastructure , you are left to wonder how many such incidents take place there on a daily basis. The situation could be worse in those places. This is clearly a big jolt to the trust people have in doctors and hospitals and it’ll take some huge efforts to bring that faith back.

Justice should prevail and strict actions ought to be taken against the wrongdoers.
