Delhi Metro Is 2nd Most Unaffordable Transport System In The World

Delhi Metro

Studies show that a middle-income commuter of Delhi Metro spends 19.5% of their income on travel. However, while the increase in expenditure occurred due to a hike in fares of Delhi Metro, the study had something more to share.

According to the report, a commuter must not spend more than 15% of their income on transport. In fact, no transport system should expect its customers to spend more than 15% of their income on transport.

All of this has made Delhi Metro the second most unaffordable transport system in the world. Hanoi in Vietnam topped the list.

Although the study came as a shock, Metro officials claimed that fare revision had only occurred after 9 years. Which, frankly, was a gradual process. In fact, officials also claim that the fares were revised due to increase in input costs.
